The Sea Women of Melanesia are supporting the Harengan Island community to manage their Locally Managed Marine Areas at Harengan and Ameng Island, off the remote west coast of Manus. The reefs here are close to the equator and have exceptional biodiversity and conservation value. SWoM leader Naomi Longa has clan connections to this area through her maternal family, and has done a great job surveying the reefs, informing the community about the benefits of LMMA and working with the clan leaders on their LMMA Management Plan.
